Best Mommy

So Gavin lately has picked up a new saying. When I let him do something or have something he really wants he tells me, "You're the best mom ever!" Which just melts my heart! We have gone through some tough times, G-man and I. And I struggle to help him learn gratitude and appreciation for the things he has been given and the efforts I take to make sure he and Ellie have a fun childhood. It makes me so happy that we are growing closer and that he is starting to recognize those efforts! Ellie has picked up on it too. When we go places fun or I let her play with something she wants she tells me, "you best mom ever." It always catches me by surprise and really makes my day! Thank you my sweet, darling, wonderful, adorable, loving kids!

Mother and Son Date NIght at Gavin's School

In September Gavin's school hosted a Mother and Son date night with dinner and a magic show. I thought it would be a great idea for Gavin and I to have a night of fun alone! So we did! Gavin loved the magic show and for days afterwards talked about learning how to do magic! Thanks Gavin for a wonderful night with a wonderful boy!!

Princess Ellie

Some time during the summer Ellie became OBSESSED with Princesses! Her first favorite was Princess Aurora and she loved watching Sleeping Beauty. (I was never fond of Sleeping Beauty and always found it rather boring) I think she gravitated toward Aurora because she is the princess that is always shown wearing a PINK dress (though for most of the movie her dress is actually blue, but enough of my commentary!) and Ellie LOVES all things PINK!

When we went to Utah in July we had a sleep over at Brian and Ann's house. Having two girls, they had TONS of princess dresses, crowns, jewelery and princess dolls. Ellie was in GIRLY HEAVEN! Her eyes got SO BIG when she saw all the girl toys and dress ups!!!

First she put on Cinderella, then Aurora (as the picture shows), then Belle! She just couldn't get enough! I decided right then and there that I needed to get her more girly toys and dress ups to play with at home.

Luckily for me, Party City had a $5 sale on select Halloween costumes in the beginning of August and I got her a ton of dress ups. Thanks to Nana and Potter, she also got Princess Sophia dress up and crowns while we were in Alaska. Most days Ellie is Aurora but some days we go through 4 or 5 princess dresses! I love every minute of it!! Not only does she love to dress up but she got a princess castle for Christmas that she LOVES to play with now. She goes around the house pretending she's a princess. Daddy is usually the coinciding prince and both Ellie and Daddy must be called by their princess and prince names by everyone in the family, to Gavin's chagrin. She insists that I sing her all the princess songs before nap and bedtime and is constantly dancing around the house, singing them to herself. Most mornings she wakes up and immediately asked to wear a princess dress and then makes Jason (who must be called the corresponding prince for whatever princess she is that day) dance with her and sing that princess's song before he goes to work.

Let me tell you, it is the MOST PRECIOUS THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!

So we decided to give her more space for her girl toys and cleaned out the space under the stairs and made it into her princess room. Here's what we did:

She plays in her princess room for hours! It is the cutest thing. She also loves to pretend cook so we bought Gavin and Ellie a kitchen, table and chairs for their art projects and Ellie a new princess tea set. Yeah, we went a little crazy one weekend for absolutely no reason...but they LOVE it!!
