A Week in Houston

This past week Gavin and I flew to Houston, Texas to visit my family. As many of you read on my previous blog, my dad didn't get to hold Gavin the brief hour he saw him due to illness. So, we took a trip out to visit the family and show off how big Gavin has gotten. I have to say that I'm probably the luckiest mom alive. About 20 minutes prior to boarding our flight in Phoenix, an announcement overhead said that our flight had been cancelled and that we would have to wait two hours for the next flight. I was SO bummed because I had timed the flight to coincide with Gavin's morning nap and now he would have to try and nap in the airport and then fly when he was wide awake...good luck I thought! Briefly, I considered the Infant Tylenol in my diaperbag that always makes him sleepy...hmmm...possible screaming baby for 2 1/2 hours or unnecessarily medicating my child...it was tempting but I decided to take my chances. (though I do not judge the mother that does; the thought of a screaming baby on a plane had me seriously considering that option!) Alas, my perfect boy was PERFECT. He slept most of the time and when he wasn't sleeping he was smiling at me. Our week with my family was pretty low key but that's how Gavin and I roll these days. It was so fun to see my family gush over him just as much as I do. We had a great time and it was so fun reconnecting with my little brother and sister. Although, I did have an old fart moment. While I was there my sister Samantha, who is 18, went out on a date. When she walked out the door, I just stood there staring. It was so WEIRD to see her dating when I can remember changing her diapers! So here's some pictures of our fun time!

The day we arrived: Gavin tuckered out and mom not lookin so hot herself.

It's hard to get a good picture of my dad...we did the best we could!

Aren't they cute?

Gavin and tummy time

I was happy the weather wasn't too humid. It was perfect, not too hot or humid. Gavin was completely spoiled. My mom couldn't stand to hear him cry, even for a few minutes, so oftentimes tummy time (which Gavin doesn't really like) got thrown out the window. Gavin gave great smiles to his grandma Niece and uncle Matthew. Matt got a little more than he bargained for, though, getting puked on TWICE! Coming home, again we had bad luck. Gavin was supposed to eat at 7pm but our flight was at 8:25pm so I tried to hold him off so he would eat during take-off. Well, my plan sort of worked. Our plane ended up being 15-20 minutes late and I had to pace around the terminal bouncing Gavin to prevent him from screaming. But, once in the air and the bottle firmly in his mouth everything was great. I'm so thankful we got to spend time with my family. We love y'all!

I love your family. I wish we lived in Houston again so we could have seen you. I miss it down there. I can't believe Sam is 18. That seems so weird to me. Considering I met her at 10! How fun to see them all grow.
