Fun in Utah

Last Thursday we flew up to Utah for our adoption finalization, sealing and blessing a little early to visit with Jason's family before all the big events. Launa, Jason's mom, got off work so she could spend as much time with Gavin as possible (I was going to say us, but let's face it...it's all about the grandbaby!) Ann (Jason's sister-in-law) brought her two girls, Elise (2) and Melody (5 months), over to play almost every day. Gavin had a blast playing with his cousins and it was so fun to see the differences between Melody and Gavin since they are only 3 wks apart. They are about the same length but Gavin is a few pounds heavier despite the fact that Melody completely eats Gavin under the table when it comes to cereal and baby food. To be fair, Gavin only started eating baby food a couple days before we arrived so Melody had a head start! It was so fun relaxing and watching the kids play together. I LOVE FAMILY!!

While we were in Utah Gavin pretty much had baby food for the first time (he had garden vegetables and sweet potatoes a couple days before we left but that's it besides rice cereal). It was so funny watching his face as he tried all the new flavors. I chose to start him out on vegetables first before jumping into the sweet, yummy fruit. He didn't like the peas very much as the pictures show but didn't mind carrots or grean beans. Gavin showed off his new scooting skills and got into EVERYTHING!! Thank goodness Grandma Launa has tons of toys!

On Friday we went to Kiddie Kandids to take Gavin's 6 month pictures. Ann came with Elise and Melody because I wanted to have a picture with all the cousins and one of Melody and Gavin together. I can sum up the experience in one word...disaster!!! Even though Gavin had his morning nap, he was so fussy and the high school photographer with scary bright red, kool-aid dyed hair scared him! I was so frustrated because she wouldn't be quiet!! If she would have let me and Jason try to make him smile I think we would have gotten better pictures but no, she kept trying and he kept crying! We did get one cute one of him and his cousins. I really wanted to capture his cheesy grin that he's doing now and so we scheduled another sitting for that afternoon. I almost said forget it when our new photographer was equally young and scary looking but Gavin seemed to like her and we got the perfect pictures!! It only took....ALL DAY! But a happy mom is priceless!
